Goan prawn curry is a favorite among non-Goans too!
Ingredients for the Goan Prawn Curry
200 gms. cleaned prawns
1 big onion (sliced)
2 green chillies (slit)
Tamarind and salt to taste.
Grind the following in a little water
8 Kashmiri chillies (remove the seeds),
big pinch of cumin seeds
3 flakes of garlic,
a small piece of ginger
half a coconut (grated)
1 tbsp. coriander seeds,
1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
4-5 peppercorns
Method
Wash and salt the prawns and then keep aside.
Heat a little oil in a pot and fry the onions.
When translucent, add the ground masala.
Fry a little more and add the prawns, and then 3 cups of water and the slit green chillies.
Tamarind may either be ground with the masala or soaked in one of the cups of water(mentioned earlier) and added after straining and discarding the pulp.
Cook on low fire for a little while… and the Goan prawn curry is ready to be eaten with rice.
