Caldine – Goan Fish Curry Recipe

Caldine – the yellow Goan fish curry that everyone loves, is made with coconut milk.

 

Ingredients for Caldine Recipe

1 medium sized pomfret or big prawns or mullet or king fish
Half a coconut (scraped)
1/4 (qtr) tsp. cumin seeds
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
5-6 pepper corns
1 tbsp. coriander seeds
2 garlic flakes
A big pinch of raw rice
Ball of tamarind (marble  size)
2 slit green chillies
1 med. sized onion
Salt to taste.

Method

Clean, cut and salt the fish and keep aside .
Grind the coconut with a little warm water and extract about a cup of thick juice. Strain it and keep separate.

To the coconut, add the other ingredients i.e. cumin seeds, coriander seeds, pepper corns, garlic, raw rice, tamarind and grind with a little more water and extract the thin juice, strain and keep separate.

Slice and fry the onion,  in a little oil and add the fish.  To it add the thin juice and the slit green chillies.
Bring it to a boil and then add the thick juice with a little salt. Cook till the fish is done.
